The Guntersville Senior Center is now offering a new exercise class. This class is for folks that have any form of arthritis. It meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 am. Our new program is an evidence based program that is led by Doris Benson. Ms. Benson is certified by the Arthritis Foundation to lead this class.
What is the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program? This Program is a community –based, non-clinical group exercise program that is designed to help those who have joint and/or muscle problems achieve improved joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve the performance of their daily activities. The program consist of 4 main elements.
- Exercise- we stretch and have range of motion exercises, we also have strengthening exercises and endurance routines.
- Health Education- we provide up to date information about arthritis self management and exercise
- Movement Activities- this is to promote social interaction, movement, balance and body awareness
- Relaxation Exercises – we will introduce and practice stress management techniques which are helpful for stress and pain reduction.
